UBC’s new Chancellor
On November 25, 2020, the Honourable Steven Point (xwĕ lī qwĕl tĕl) was officially installed as the 19th Chancellor of the University of British Columbia.
UBC’s Chancellor is the titular head of the university, presiding over all major ceremonies, including UBC’s fall virtual graduation 2020. The Chancellor confers university degrees at congregation and convocation ceremonies.
The virtual event for the Chancellor’s installation incorporated elements of the traditional in-person ceremony, including an address by the new Chancellor.
